Fall Events

Fall Clothing Exchange/Kids’ Used Toys & Clothing Sale-October 15, 2016

  • Our semi-annual LES Clothing Exchange is held on a Saturday morning from 8-12.   This event won the Sustainable Lawrence award in 2011 and has become a popular community event. C0-Chairs are Kristi Reading and Heather Mullen, les.clothing@yahoo.com

Bowling Social-November 6, 2016

  • The bowling social is a fun event that provides LES families with an opportunity to get to know one another. Chair: Lisa Pisano, Lisapisano@Comcast.Net

Book Fair-November 17th-22nd, 2016

  • Our Scholastic Book Fairs are held in the fall (November) and spring (April) to coincide with Parent/Teacher Conferences. Volunteers are always needed for set-up, working during the fair and breaking down at the end. Chair: Martha Liu, mmp303@Yahoo.Com

Winter Events

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Event-December 15, 2016

  • This event recognizes the teacher and staff community for all their efforts. Help is needed to set up, prepare gift bags, baking, and clean up. Chair needed

Science & Discovery Night-January 27, 2017

  • This event exposes students to a variety of scientific topics by allowing them to participate in hand-on experiments & exhibits. Responsibilities for this event include coordinating with local scientists, demonstrators, etc. Chair: Paula Spencer, pauladaw@gmail.com

Reading is a Dream-February 23, 2017

  • An evening event in which students are invited to wear their pajamas to school and listen to several books being read by selected teachers. Chair: Cathy Morgan, cathykmorgan@gmail.com

Young Authors’ Night-March 21, 2017

  • This event enables every student to show off their writing and illustration skills. Students have the opportunity to write and illustrate a 1 page story and read it at Young Author’s Night to an audience. Co-Chairs: Carolyn Cahill, cahill822@verizon.net & Arielle Altchek, aaltchek@alumni.duke.edu

Spring Fundraiser Event-Dance-A-Palooza, May 13, 2017

  • This family friendly fundraising event gives students and their families the chance to cut a rug while raising funds to support the various PTO events that take place throughout the year. Parent volunteers are needed to help with decorations, entertainment, food, and the silent auction. Chair: Tran Kim-Senior, tkimsenior@gmail.com

Summer Ice Cream Social-June 8, 2017

  • The Summer Social is a family event held at the end of the school year to provide current LES families and incoming kindergarten families with another opportunity to get to know each other. 2nd Grade Picnic-June 9, 2017

  • The 2nd Grade Picnic is an opportunity for the 2nd grade classes to celebrate another school year. There are games, music and food served and parent volunteers are needed with set up, facilitating games and activities, and clean up. Chairs needed

Third Grade Party-June 15, 2017

  • Third grade parents are needed to coordinate the end-of-year party for the outgoing third grade students. Event usually includes a DJ, pizza lunch, games, crafts, etc. The PTO will provide an estimated budget for the party and details from previous parties. Co-Chairs: Cathy Morgan, cathykmorgan@gmail.com & Stacey Claffey, stacey.claffey@yahoo.com

Year Round Opportunities

Classroom Parent Helpers

  • Each classroom is paired up with a Homeroom Parent Coordinator who works with a group of Parent Helpers affiliated with each classroom. The Homeroom Coordinator is the main liaison with the teacher on supplies needed for designated classroom celebrations, activities, etc. The Helping Parents assist the Coordinator plan events and respond to any needs that the classroom teacher may have throughout the year. If you are interested in being a Classroom Parent Coordinator, please select that on the volunteer sign up list and the PTO will assign  a coordinator from those interested. Parents who sign up for the coordinator position but are not selected will be automatically signed up to be Parent Helpers unless you decide otherwise. If you are interested in just being a Parent Helper, you can sign up just for that. Chair: Carolyn Cahill, cahill822@verizon.net

LES Brick Campaign

  • The brick pavers are sold throughout the year.  Volunteers are needed to collect the forms and payments and order the 4” x 8” brick pavers with the correct engraving.  Bricks hold 3 lines with a maximum of 13 characters per line. Committee members will help promote awareness of the brick sale throughout the year. Chair: Nicole Riccitello, nriccitello@yahoo.com

LES Garden

  • In 2012 the LES Garden was awarded with an honorable mention School Garden of the Year Award presented by the NJ Farm to School Network. The LES Garden is a unique asset to our children’s education.  It requires year-round maintenance that is unique with the seasons.  Volunteers are needed for every season including the summer months to maintain and cultivate the gardens. Hospitality

  • The Hospitality committee provides refreshments for meetings, teacher luncheons, and other events. Co-Chairs: Roopali Sharma, roopalipillai@gmail.com & Dilnaz Shrof, dilnashroff@yahoo.com

LESterwear – T-shirts and gear

  • Raise money through sale of clothing and items branded with the school logo. Work with local vendor to select items. Distribute and collect orders form and place order with vendor. Chair: Tran Kim-Senior, tkimsenior@gmail.com

Photography Committee

  • We are looking for parent photographers to volunteer to take photos at LES PTO events and email them to the PTO account at lespto40@gmail.com. Contact the PTO if you are interested.

Third Grade C.A.R.E. Kids Advisor

  • CARE kids are made up of 3rd graders who are interested in serving their community through service-learning projects. Advisors help with the Thanksgiving Food Drive, pack clothes for donations after the LES Clothing Sale, participate in field trips, assist during lunch/recess when children are working on projects.
